About

David Walker, owner of Walker Art Dept., specializes in residential mural art, decorative and faux painting.

Through the process of making a house into a home, there is a wonderful ingredient that can be flavored in.  That ingredient is known as decorative painting. Generally, decorative painting includes translucent wall color effects (glazing), textural wall effects, trompe l’oeil and murals. Decorative painting can enhance your home by harmonizing the furnishings with the architecture.

Wall glazing adds visual depth that flat wall paint can not provide. Texture techniques can freshen and give great appeal to older walls that show wear or age. Trompe l’oeil (pronounced “trump loy”) is an artistic technique where a wall is painted to appear to be something other than what it is. Stone block, brick or carved stone are popular subjects of trompe l’oeil.  This technique offers depth or dimension that is only illusionary.  A trompe l’oeil is a painting that has a shallow depth of field.

Murals range in as many styles as there is imagination. Niches are popular places to put murals. Murals can bring in local color, expand color palettes and establish decorating themes. They can bring the outside inside. Murals can even add needed light, space or depth in a hall.

Walker Art Dept would be happy to contribute and assist with ideas for your home or office.
